Pvt schools put parents in a fix

Parents, who are trying their best to pool resources in providing the best of education to their children, are left in lurch over the misleading notifications by some sought-after schools in the city.

A parent of a three-year-and-two-month-old child, who has been trying for admission of his child in LKG, was surprised when the notification of age criteria, in one of the schools, read as three-year-and-10-months for admission to LKG.

Schools in their notification for admissions to LKG/UKG and standard one have wrongly mentioned the eligible age as three year and ten month.

The parent rushed to the Education Department and verified the eligibility criteria, realising that the notification in schools was misleading.

The notification states: “Candidate should be minimum 3 years 10 months and Maximum 4 years 10 months as on 1st June 2015 (i.e., Candidate must be born between 1/8/2011 and 31/7/2015).

This in is sharp contrast with the circular on fixing age limits issued by the Department of Public Instructions on Jan 29, which states that the minimum age for admission to LKG was three years and maximum four years and six months.

The Department has also made it clear that the minimum and maximum age for admission to first standard was five years and, six years and six months respectively.

When contacted, Department officials said they would look into the matter and direct the schools to display correct information immediately. No school was supposed to misinform the parents on admission rules, officials said.
