Of those admitted in the Shahapur taluk hospital were Mounesh, pump operator who had alerted the people of Teggelli and Shahpur after coming to know about pesticide being mixed with water, and his mother Nagamma.

Mounesh told The Hindu from the hospital bed that it was an unfortunate incident. However, luckily many escaped a dangerous tragedy. Those who drank water, including himself, were admitted in hospital as they developed nausea, he said.

Recovering

“My mother, who initially informed me about the water being poisoned, and I are recovering after treatment,” he added.
