Activists of the All-India Democratic Students’ Organisation, All-India Democratic Youth Organisation and All-India Mahila Samskruthika Sanghatane staged a demonstration in the city on Saturday to urge the University of Mysore to desist from collecting funds from the student community for the centenary celebrations. The activists of the organizations said the university should instead focus on enhancing the standards of teaching, shore up infrastructure in the colleges, improve quality of food at hostels besides constructing toilets and providing drinking water facilities. The varsity has received sufficient funds from the Centre and the State and hence the students should not be burdened, the activists added. — Special Correspondent
