Traffic movement on the busy Shahpur- Yadgir main road near Khanapur village in Shahpur taluk of Yadgir district was disrupted for over half-an-hour on Monday after residents of Kadamgera village put up blockades demanding basic amenities, including potable drinking water. The residents said that the village had no permanent source of drinking water after a few borewells in the village went dry. They further said that repeated reminders to the officials concerned failed to yield any result. Residents are forced to walk for a mile to get water, they rued.

Besides, they said that the government had not sanctioned enough medical staff for the primary health centre located in the village. They urged the district administration to fulfil these demands at the earliest.

Umesh Mudnal, social worker, who led the protest, submitted a memorandum to the Revenue Department officials addressed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
