Restrictions on two-wheeler movement to stay

Prohibitory orders that were clamped here under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, following the violence that erupted during a rally taken out by the Popular Front of India (PFI) on February 19, has been extended till March 8, Deputy Commissioner V.P. Ikkeri has said.

Earlier, it had been announced that the prohibitory orders would be in force between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. till March 2.

However, to ensure peace and amity in the city limits, it has now been decided to extend the prohibitory orders till March 8. The restriction on the movement of two-wheelers from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. would also continue till March 8, he said at a press conference here on Monday.

M. Nanjundaswamy, Inspector-General of Police, Eastern Range, said that elaborate security arrangements would be in place to maintain peace and amity in the city during Holi celebrations on March 7.

A holiday would be declared for schools and colleges for that day. Permission had been granted for celebrating Holi between 6 a.m. and noon. Forceful splashing of colours on passersby and taking bath in Tunga river after playing Holi has been banned. Commercial establishments in the city limits, including liquor outlets, will remain closed on the day of Holi, he said.
