Proceedings in 5,000 sensitive polling booths, including in far-flung areas, across the State will be webcast on April 17. This is to keep a watch on “unauthorised movements”.
The public can also watch the proceedings, which will be streamed live on the Chief Electoral Office website.
Special Officer (Technical) in the office of the CEO K.N. Ramesh said web cameras and laptops would be set up in the booths and the proceedings would be streamed live. This would help officials witness any untoward incidents and take suitable measures.

Proceedings in sensitive booths in remote areas that do not have enough security arrangements would also be webcast, he said.
Mr. Ramesh said the Election Commission of India (ECI) was impressed with the webcast of proceedings in 1,627 polling booths during the last Assembly elections.
Following this, the ECI extended the facility to other States.

He said nodal officers in all 30 districts in charge of arrangements in the booths had been trained to handle the webcast.
Further, college students who were familiar with the technology could volunteer by contacting the CEO. Zilla panchayat employees and retired government servants were also welcome to help, he said.
Mr. Ramesh said that the cameras would only capture the movement of people/staff in the booths, and not of anyone voting.
There are 54,261 polling booths in Karnataka.
