The forum of progressive writers and activists, who organised a protest in Dharwad earlier this month against the killing of scholar M.M. Kalburgi, have reiterated their demand for a probe into the role of fringe Hindutva groups such as Sri Rama Sena and religious fundamentalists in the murder.
The umbrella organisation, ‘Dr. M.M. Kalburgi Hatya Virodhi Horata Vedike’, in a press release on Tuesday, also emphasised the need to investigate the possible links between the sene and Sanatan Sanstha.
The vedike demanded to know what was wrong in asking that the sene be brought under the radar of investigation when its members were openly justifying the killing of Kalburgi. Members of the Raichur unit of the sene had threatened two senior writers — Chennaveera Kanavi and Giraddi Govindaraj — who had participated in the Dharwad protest meeting and signed a memorandum demanding speedy investigation into Kalburgi’s murder.

The sene members were flooding social media with threats and rabid statements against writer K.S. Bhagwan, after he was chosen for an award by the Karnataka Sahitya Academy, said the vedike. “What is wrong in demanding that an organisation with such suspicious activities be probed?” the vedike has sought to know.
The vedike plans to hold meetings on the lines of the one held in Dharwad, in Kalaburagi (September 24), Koppal (October 1), Gadag (October 7), and Shivamogga (October 9).
