Mysuru Lok Sabha MP Pratap Simha has waded into another controversy by saying that people who target Prime Minister Narendra Modi are like those “who spit towards the sky and end up with it on their face”.
The reaction came in the wake of the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) leaders in Karnataka targeting Mr. Modi for his alleged indifference to flood-hit victims of Karnataka and also criticising the 25 BJP MPs elected from the State for doing little to push the Union government to release central grants.
Contending that there was no substance in the charges levelled against the BJP by the Opposition leaders, Mr. Simha told reporters in Mysuru on Wednesday that the number of party MPs from Karnataka went up to 25 in the 2019 elections from 17 in 2014 and the increase could not have come without the MPs working for the people.

Soon after Mr. Simha’s remarks, many Congress leaders attacked him for his “irresponsible” statement. Former Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara said: “Mr. Modi may be god to Mr. Simha. But, let him worship Mr. Modi in private and speak of flood relief to us.” Senior Congress leader H.K. Patil said no responsible people’s representative should be speaking in defence of Mr. Modi than speaking up for suffering people.
