District-level SVEEP committee chairman and zilla panchayat CEO B.C. Satish releasing posters of the SVEEP programme in Dharwad on Monday.

Postmen here are set to play a new role during the elections. The district-level SVEEP committee has roped in postmen to create awareness among the voters regarding the importance of exercising their franchise. Accordingly, postmen in select areas will carry with them and distribute voters list, voters guide and other such material provided by the SVEEP committee.

District-level SVEEP committee chairman and the zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer B.C. Satish told presspersons here on Monday that postmen will be engaged to sensitise voters in 20 select polling stations where the voter turnout was low during the last elections.

As postmen share an emotional bond with the people, especially in the rural areas, this new method is expected to yield good results. Postmen will also ask voters to make an oral pledge about exercising their franchise without fail, he said.

All that the voters have to do to avail themselves of this offer is to vote and then show the ink mark on their fingers to the hotel staff.
