An inquiry has been ordered against an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) here who has been accused of mentally and sexually harassing an assistant sub-inspector (ASI).
On Wednesday, ASI Shreekala filed a complaint against ACP T.R. Jagannath with Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar.
Ms. Shreekala said Mr. Jagannath rejected her application seeking leave from May 25 to 30. When she went to meet Mr. Jagannath at his office on Tuesday, he stuck to his decision of rejecting her leave application. “He abused me and sent me out,” Ms. Shreekala told

Ms. Shreekala said Mr. Jagannath had harassed her earlier also.
“When I expressed this before our inspector, he said I need to cooperate with Mr. Jagannath in the evening. What does this mean?” Ms. Shreekala said.
Unable to take it any more, she approached the Police Commissioner, she added.

Ms. Shreekala said she had given the whole account of the harassment that she had gone through by Mr. Jagannath in her complaint. She said Mr. Kharbikar granted her leave from May 25.
Mr. Jagannath did not answer calls made to his cellphone.
Meanwhile, during an interaction with journalists on Thursday, Mr. Kharbikar said there was nothing pertaining to sexual harassment in Ms. Shreekala’s complaint.
“The complaint is regarding denial of leave. Actually, she has been granted leave. I don’t know why this [issue] arose,” he said.
Terming the complaint an “internal matter”, Mr. Kharbikar said he had ordered an inquiry by a deputy commissioner of police, but maintained that “it (the inquiry) is being done in the same way as in case of other complaints.”
