K.J. George, Home Minister, said here on Tuesday that the police would decide on whether the “Kiss of Love” event should be allowed in Bengaluru.

Speaking to presspersons after inaugurating the new administrative office building of the Coastal Security Police in Malpe here, Mr. George said everyone had the right to protest within the framework of law. “But if the protest is done in an obscene manner, is against the culture of the country or disturbs peace and harmony, the police would deal with it,” he said.

On the alleged abduction, sexual assault and subsequent death of a 14-year-old girl at Tirthahalli in Shivamogga district on October 31, Mr. George said that the CID was already investigating the matter. The probe was in its final stage and when the CID submitted its report to him, he would be able to give information about it.

On the heavy lobbying by Congress leaders for posts in boards and corporations, Mr. George said the party had many senior and experienced leaders. But there were only about 90 corporations and boards for which hundreds of them aspired. “If aspirants are patient, they will get the posts, if not now, then in the future,” he said.

About the black-flag demonstration against him organised by BJP workers at the entrance of the Malpe fisheries harbour here on Tuesday, Mr. George said that everybody had a right to protest in a democracy but it had to be done in a democratic and peaceful manner.

“I do not know why they want my resignation. But they have been demanding my resignation ever since I became the Home Minister. I have no objection to their protests seeking my resignation,” he said.
