Police officials search Internet cafes in Belagavi

May 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - BELAGAVI:

Police officials on Saturday inspected Internet cafes here and other parts of the district to check cyber crimes. This is in the backdrop of complaints that some cafes were allowing customers to access to pornographic websites, a police sub-inspector said.

He said the objective was also to check if there were customers browsing websites or indulging in other electronic communication which were defined as distasteful, obscene or offensive for a variety of reasons under Information Technology Act, 2000.

However, the police could not provide information if they had come across violations of the Act at any centre but said the police was checking on random basis at some cafes.
