Pedalling to create awareness

In the backdrop of the high death rate due to heart attacks in the country, the students of Mysore Medical College and Research Institute conducted an awareness drive on saving life and also preventing the onset of cardiac arrest.

This was conducted in two phases in the run-up to their three-day State-level inter-collegiate cultural festival– SaMMsCRIthi’15 to be held from September 25.

Flash mob

While a flash mob was held by the medical students at a popular mall in association with Vikram Hospitals and the Cardiological Society of India on Saturday, a cycle rally was held on Sunday.

The flash mob event included a live demonstration of the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation with models to the public wherein they were taught the technique of saving the life of a patient who suffers cardiac arrest.

Second part

The second part was the cycle rally when around 150 students pedalled across the city to create awareness on the benefits of cycling and other forms of exercise to prevent the onset of heart attacks.

B. Krishnamurthy, Dean and director of MMC&RI; M.A. Shekar, president of Cardiological Society of India; and Sudha, cultural chairman, MMC&RI. Rajashekar Koti, Editor, ‘Aandolana’ Kannada daily, flagged off the event and the participants pedalled 4 km through the main thoroughfares of the city including the Palace, Gandhi Square, Devaraj Urs Road, JLB road and Railway Station.
