Party workers pay last respects to Venkatesh Naik in Raichur

Hundreds of leaders and cadres of the Congress paid their last respects to MLA A. Venkatesh Naik in Raichur, who died in a train accident near Penugonda in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district on Monday.

As the body arrived in Raichur at 1.00 pm, party workers raised slogans hailing their leader. The body was kept in the ambulance at the District Congress Committee (DCC) office premises for public to pay their last respect.

DCC president A. Vasanth Kumar, former MLA A. Papareddy, Narayanpet (Telangana) MLA S.R. Reddy, State president of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha Chamarasa Malipatil, Congress leaders Parasmal Sukhani, Jayanna, Jayavanthrao Patange and others paid their respects to the deceased leader.

The body was taken to Arakera village in Deodurg taluk, the native place of Naik, for last rites.

“KPCC president G. Parameshwar, Ministers Shamanur Shivashankarappa, Satish Jarkiholi, Qamar ul Islam, Sharan Prakash Patil and other leaders are expected to participate in the final rites,” DCC president Vasanth Kumar told The Hindu .

Naik’s son and Raichur Lok Sabha member B.V. Naik, who was away in Chandigarh, is on his way to Arakera, he added.
