The Committee led by K.C. Tyagi interacted with bank officials and later met the members of the local industries who submitted a memorandum to highlight their grievances. Besides studying the problems of the MSME, the Committee is looking at issues related to securing credit from financial institutions plaguing the entrepreneurs.

Mr. Tyagi said it was the impression of the Committee that stakeholders were not aware of most of the programmes launched by the Government to shore up the MSMEs and hence there was a need for creating greater awareness among them.

Representatives of the Mysore Industries Association urged the Committee members comprising more than 30 MPs, to take measures for the rehabilitation of the sick industries. They also wanted the SSIs to be exempted from the purview of the Enforcement of Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Asset and Enforcement Security Act 2002 as there was a perception that banks were misusing the provisions of the Act resulting in loss to the entrepreneurs.

The stakeholders representing the industry said the Committee should direct the State Governments to provide land at concessional rates for establishing common facility centres under the Cluster Development programmes.

The Committee has already visited Coimbatore before coming to Mysuru and is expected to make its recommendations to the Government in due course on the current status of the MSMEs and the steps to invigorate them.
