Over 97,336 beneficiaries of various cards in the district have not submitted required documents such as Electors Photo Identity Card and Aadhar card.

Over 7,33,898 cards, including 50,519 Anthyodaya, 5,48,559 BPL cards and 1,34,820 APL cards, were in existence in the district during 2013-14. In order to eliminate bogus cards and duplication, the Food and Civil Supplies Department, at the behest of the government, had asked beneficiaries to submit documents through SMS. Over 6,36,552 beneficiaries have sent the required documents, said Rameshwarappa, Senior Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Department.

At a meeting here on Thursday, Mr. Rameshwarappa said cards of those who failed to furnish details were being withdrawn in a phased manner. He said that over 1,76,637 people had submitted applications along with required documents for new cards and of them 53,727 had been disposed off. V. Srinivas Prasad, Revenue Minister and Mysore District in-charge, asked Deputy Commissioner Shikha whether the beneficiaries in rural places had been educated about the documents to be submitted.

Ms. Shikha said awareness had been created in all villages and beneficiaries were being helped by 235 gram panchayats and 33 Atal Janasnehi centres, 58 photo service centres and six Mysore One centres. Meanwhile, a gram panchayat secretary complained that documents sent after 10 p.m. had been rejected, while another officer said that though SMS had been sent to the office, the system at the Food and Civil Supplies Department showed that the document had not been uploaded.

The Minister said he would ask the authorities to simplify the procedures.
