Over 200 students ready to take on IT industry

More than 200 students from different technical and science streams including engineering graduates, passed out of RiiiT – an IT finishing school – and are bracing up for a career in the industry and the corporate world.

The former IPS officer Kiran Bedi was the chief guest and addressed the passing out students who also received their certificates at the graduation day programme held here on Thursday.

Extensive training

The students selected for RiiiT undergo extensive training on technology for three months, followed by an internship to get a hands-on experience and exposure before beginning a job.

The objective of the IT finishing school, established in 2007, is to bridge the skill gap and improve the employability of IT aspirants.

A release said the school designs its curriculum and revises it every year to be on par with the industry requirements, and the students learn a unique blend of technical and analytical skills with a thrust on soft skills including spoken and written communication.

Varied educational background

S.V. Venkatesh, Director, RiiiT, said entrants come from varied background including B.E., M.C.A., B.Sc. and B.C.A. Last year, out of 428 internees, 351 students found a career in the IT industry.

A majority of the students are drawn from tier 2 and tier 3 cities of Karnataka. Since the inception of the institute, more than 1,500 students have been absorbed in various industries.
