Communist Party of India — Marxist (CPI-M) slammed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its celebration of completion of one year in power at the Centre by terming the period as “one year of anti-people rule” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Addressing a media conference here on Monday, the party’s State secretariat member Nityananda Swamy attacked the BJP for misleading the people by projecting pro-corporate governance as a great achievement.
“Either scrapping or weakening of hard-earned labour laws, attempting to snatch farmers’ agricultural land in the name of industrial development, cutting budgetary allocations to the social sector and extending full statutory support to the corporate class have been the achievements of the Union government in the last one year,” Mr. Swamy said. Mr. Modi is, he added, more interested in attracting huge investments from across the world, rather than addressing the sorrows and sufferings of farmers, workers and other marginalised sections of society.
“The Prime Minister is extensively roaming the world and extending red carpet invitations to international capitalists for investing in India. Restructuring labour laws in favour of industrialists, moving land acquisition bills that allows the government to acquire farmers’ land without their consent and handing it over to big corporate housesshow the pro-corporate and anti-people nature of the Modi-led Union government,” he said. The country needs rapid industrialisation, but not at the cost of farmers and workers, he said.
