‘One ticket, many tourist destinations’ — this concept is likely to be introduced for those visiting Mysore for the Dasara celebrations next month.

The Dasara Festival Committee had planned to introduce the concept last year but could not owing to lack of time.

Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha, who is the Dasara Special Officer, told

The Hindu that a meeting of officials from the Tourism Department and representatives of the tourism industry would be convened soon to discuss the ‘single ticket’ entry for Dasara tourists.

Instead of buying tickets at every tourist spot, visitors can purchase one ticket that will allow them entry to several spots, such as Amba Vilas Palace, Mysore zoo, Karanji Lake Nature Park and Brindavan Gardens.

“This year, we want to have the system in place on the day the festivities begin. The initiative is aimed at preventing people from waiting at every tourist spot to buy tickets,” she explained.

To a question, Ms. Shikha said: “I’ll speak to the stakeholders, including the zoo management, and discuss revenue sharing, ways and means to get the concept introduced and so on. The facility will allow tourists to go around the city and its surroundings at ease.”

She said suggestions from stakeholders in the tourism industry would be elicited on making the concept attractive and tourist-friendly. “The idea is to make their visit comfortable. Steps will be in that direction,” she said.

The authorities here are hoping to see an increase in tourist arrivals this Dasara. About four lakh tourists are said to have watched the Jamboo Savari, the grand Dasara finale, last year.

District in-charge Minister V. Srinivas Prasad said the Dasara Festival Committee had been told to ensure “tourist-friendly” facilities this Dasara and to make the stay of every tourist memorable.
