Residents of Tamil Colony, near Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS), refused to allow officials of the Karnataka Slum Development Board to enter their colony on Wednesday.
The High Court had recently directed the Slum Development Board to vacate the slum as the land belongs to MIMS. On Wednesday, officials led by N.P. Balraj, technical director of the board, visited the colony to hold talks with the residents.
But the residents raised slogans against the officials and prevented them from entering the colony.

The officials said the residents have no choice but to obey the court order, and added that the board has chalked out a rehabilitation plan. “We will submit a report to the government about today’s development,” one of the officials told reporters later.
Hosahalli Boregowda, president of the Mandya City Municipal Council (CMC), vice-president Sujatha Mani, CMC commissioner T.N. Narasimha Murthy, assistant executive engineer Prathap, some councillors and others were present.
