Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said notices had been served on 61 all-India service officers and 184 Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) officers who had not submitted their annual income returns for 2013–14 to the State government.

A total of 216 IAS, 143 IPS, 146 IFS and 285 KAS officers are serving in various posts in the State.

To a question by H.D. Revanna of the Janata Dal (Secular) during the Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Siddaramaiah said two IAS officers, 30 IPS, 29 IFS and 184 KAS officers had not submitted their statements on assets and liabilities to the government on time. While December 31 was the last date for filing the returns for officials of the all-India service cadre, March 31 was the last day for KAS officers.

Uma Mahadevan and Meer Anees Ahmed are the two IAS officers who had not filed returns. Mr. Mahadevan was on leave for one year. Disciplinary action had been taken against 14 KAS officers and six of them were ordered to pay fine, the Chief Minister said.

Ramesh Kumar (Congress) said he would consider officials who had not filed their returns on time as “dishonest”. Why did the government not take action against such officials? “We run to the Karnataka Lokayukta offices to file our returns,” Mr. Kumar said.

To a question by Eshwar Bheemanna Khandre (Congress), Mr. Siddaramaiah said a departmental inquiry had been ordered or investigation was under progress against five IAS officers on different charges. They were A.K. Monnappa, M.N. Vijayakumar, M.S. Ravishanker, Gangaram Baderia and P.S. Vastrad, he said.

Departmental inquiry was pending against three IFS officers — G.A. Sudarshan, S.D. Pathak and S. Muthaiah. The four IPS officers who were facing charges were P. Ravindranath, B. Srikantappa, H.S. Venkatesh and Jayaprakash V. Nayak, Mr. Siddaramaiah said.
