Even as reports about phone-tapping by the former coalition government are making the rounds, the former Minister Basavaraj Horatti has sought to know why the current government was keeping quiet on the issue instead of ordering an enquiry.
Speaking to presspersons here on Friday, Mr. Horatti said that it was not for the first time that such allegations about phone-tapping were made. “This is not the first case of a complaint about phone-tapping. There have been several instances previously,” he said.
Mr. Horatti alleged that several governments had ordered for phone-tapping for political reasons.

“However in many cases, enquiries were not conducted. Even in cases where an enquiry was conducted, punitive action was not taken,” he alleged.
He alleged that even the Union government had indulged in phone-tapping. On the present allegation, he said that if the government was really serious about the issue, it should get the whole issue enquired into.
Meanwhile the former Minister D.C. Thammanna, who spoke to presspersons here on Friday, also concurred with what Mr. Horatti said.

He said it was not the first time that such allegations had come up and such complaints had been made against the Centre also.
