No MCC council meetings, threatens BJP

June 02, 2015 01:55 pm | Updated 01:55 pm IST - MANGALURU

The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) council has threatened that it will not allow the monthly meetings of the council to take place unless renovation work of Town Hall, which has come to a standstill, are resumed.

Addressing media here on Tuesday, Sudhir Shetty Kannur, Leader of the Opposition in the council, said that the Hall has been shut for the past eight months for renovation. The former Mayor Mahabala Marla promised that the renovated Hall would be ready by December 26, 2014 to observe the Golden Jubilee of the Hall.

Ganesh Karnik, MLC, said that closure of the Town Hall has affected many artistes who are not able to conduct programmes elsewhere. He said that lack of co-ordination among the ruling Congress councillors and Congress MLAs and ministers in the district and the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada is responsible for the delay.
