Nitte institute team’s ATV wins laurels

Team Nitte Racing (TNR) bagged the 11th position in the country at the ‘Mega ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) Championship’ organised by Autosports India in collaboration with the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) and Kalinga University at Bhubaneshwar from March 4 to 7.

According to a press release issued on Thursday, TNR was a group of 28 students from the mechanical engineering branch of NMAM Institute of Technology (NMAMIT). The event started with a technical inspection where every vehicle was checked thoroughly to meet the rules and safety concerns. Then there was a brake test, which TNR cleared in its first attempt itself. The team came ninth in the flat dirt race, second in landslide simulation, and completed six laps successfully without breakdown in the final endurance race, coming 11th overall and first in the State.

How the idea came about

During the making of the vehicle, the basic idea of the ATV was jotted down by members of various sub-systems of TNR.

After various brain-storming sessions and iterations, the team came up with the design of their ATV. The design of the buggy was finalised with the aim of keeping the chassis light, compact and ergonomically good.Every part was designed keeping in mind the driver’s safety.

The members, who designed and created their own aluminium damper, gear box coupler, coupler shaft, CVT bolt and double CV joint shaft, described the whole process as a “a huge learning experience”.
