The new building, constructed at Siddarthanagar at a cost of Rs. 5 crore to relocate Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts (CAVA), lacks artistic appeal.
“By no stretch of imagination can it be termed a work of classic architecture,” said social activist Vasanthkumar Mysoremath. It is unfortunate, he said, that an institution that has earned accolades for having produced some famous artistes and art works has not paid due attention to design and outlook that matches the world famous heritage and architectural beauty of Mysuru.
“The new concrete building seems to be environment-unfriendly. The huge structures are known to create carbon footprint and generate large amount of heat that may alter the environs around the building. Mysureans would have been glad if the new building was modelled around the Jaganmohan Palace that houses Sri Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery,” Mr. Mysoremath observed.

“If the heritage city of Mysuru must retain its old world charm, authorities concerned will have to consider framing certain visual and artistic parameters that need to be adhered to before sanctioning future building plans,” he said.
Such guidelines may be drafted in consultation with historians, experts from archaeology, architecture and civil engineering, and finalised after public discussion, he said.
