Congress legislator A.S. Patil Nadahalli, who had stirred a hornet’s nest earlier by seeking separate Statehood for north Karnataka, set a new precedent in the Assembly on Friday by making an attempt to move an adjournment motion on continuing regional imbalances and ineffective implementation of Article 371-J in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region.
The adjournment motion was signed by 25 people, including Congress members from north Karnataka and Opposition members. Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar was among the signatories.
When Mr. Nadahalli sought to move the adjournment motion, his own party members shouted and demanded that Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa not allow the member to make preliminary submission on the matter since such a submission can only be made on a “recent occurrence”.

Appaji Nadagouda, J.T. Patil and Congress Chief Whip Ashok Pattan opposed the move and requested the Speaker not to entertain the plea made by Mr. Nadahalli, who has been suspended from the Congress Legislature Party.
“Why is a Congress member moving the adjournment motion? What is the purpose?” Mr. Nadagouda asked, and made a fervent appeal to the Speaker to turn down the move.
The Speaker rejected Mr. Nadahalli’s plea and said he would call a meeting of floor leaders to fix dates for discussion of various issues related to north Karnataka.
