Mysuru police sets 30-day deadline for house owners to provide data on tenants

The Mysuru City Police has set a 30-day deadline for owners of houses, who had rented their premises, to provide details of their tenants to the jurisdictional police station within the next 30 days.

Failure to do so by the owners will attract action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In an order dated May 6, City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda said the compilation of details of tenants and paying guests was necessary to ensure security of the City and maintenance of law and order.

With Mysuru making rapid progress in industrialisation and the population of the City already crossing 13 lakh, several people from outside the district and the State had found employment in the City. A few among them, Mr. Dayananda said, take advantage of the “anonymity” to commit terror acts, murders, extortion, dacoity and other heinous crimes and go absconding, making it difficult for the police to trace them.

Though the City Police had already introduced a scheme called “Suraksha” to collect details of tenants and paying guests, there has been very poor response from the owners of houses and paying guest accommodations.

Owners of houses, apartments and serviced apartments should compulsorily provide their tenants details including name, permanent address, occupation, mobile number, Aadhaar card, Voters’ ID card, Passport and other details along with a photograph in Form No. 1 available with the police station.

Similiarly, the owners of paying guest accommodations should provide their tenants’ name, permanent address, occupation, mobile number, Aadhaar card, Voters’ ID card, Passport and other details along with a photograph in Form No. 2 available with the police station.

The Police Commissioner has also asked the real estate agents, who are engaged in the business of providing rented accommodation, to also submit details of tenants taking houses on rent in the limits of Mysuru City Police Commissionerate to the jurisdictional police station in Form No 1.

The tenants have also been asked by the Police Commissioner to inform the jurisdictional police within seven days of the tenants vacating their premises.
