Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has resolved to demolish and reconstruct Devaraja Market and Lansdowne Building, two heritage structures that have suffered partial collapse.

At a council meeting on Tuesday, the MCC upheld a task force recommendation to demolish and reconstruct the structures. The MCC decision will be sent to the government for approval. The civic body took up the issue for discussion on a suggestion of the Deputy Commissioner, who had received reports on the future course of action on Devaraja Market and Lansdowne building from not only the task force, but also the government-constituted Heritage Committee.

While the government-constituted Heritage Committee opposed demolition, the task force favoured it. The Deputy Commissioner left it to the MCC council to take a call. However, the final decision will be taken by the government, an MCC official said.
