Much in store for theatre lovers this weekend

It is a bonanza for theatre enthusiasts this weekend, as prominent troupes will offer a range of interesting plays.

Ninasam Tirugata-2014 will present two Kannada plays, Uttararama Charita directed by B.R. Venkataramana Ithal and Namma Samsara by S. Raghunandan, at the Karnataka Secretariat Club auditorium, Cubbon Park, at 5.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

PunchTantra, a mime team, will present the best of what they have done so far on Saturday. There is sure to be a laughter storm, promise the people behind this team. The venue is Kuvempu Kalakshetra, K.R. Road, at 7 p.m.

Kriyative Theatre will stage the English version of Singarevva Mattu Aramane (Singarevva and the Palace), an adaptation of Jnanpith award winner Chandrashekara Kambara’s important work, on Saturday at 3.30 p.m. at Kuvempu Kalakshetra. It is a solo play by noted artiste Lakshmi Chandrashekar and directed by Soumya Varma. The play is a powerful depiction of the suffering in a feudal setup. It is a unique attempt to explore the possibilities of converting the novel into solo narrative using a variety of acting styles, techniques, colourful costumes, props and music.
