Organisations extending healthcare facilities to rural areas are doing a yeoman’s service, BJP State unit president Pralhad Joshi has said.
Inaugurating a health camp at Harobelavadi village in Dharwad taluk on Sunday, he said that although successive governments had launched health programmes, they were yet to reach rural areas.
Harobelavadi and Kabbenur have been chosen as the ‘MP’s model villages’ and Kshamata Seva Samsthe, Asha Cardiac and Diabetes Foundation, Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences and Jnana Ganga, Hubballi, had jointly organised the camp.

Mr. Joshi said that his dream was to develop Harobelavadi and Kabbenur into model villages providing all facilities. He said the government primary school in the village would be transformed into a new building using funds from Oil India. Mr. Joshi said an initial funding of Rs. 28 lakh had been sanctioned for the first phase and the tender process would be completed soon to initiate the construction. Sri Mallikarjun Shivacharya Swami of Savadatti Mutt was present. Physician G.B. Sattur made introductory remarks. A host of officials and elected representatives were present.
Over 1,500 persons were screened and 40 persons were selected for cataract and other eye operations.
