MP condemns communal violence

October 01, 2015 03:45 pm | Updated 03:45 pm IST - BELAGAVI

Suresh C. Angadi, MP, has condemned the communal violence that erupted in Khadak galli and adjoining areas of the city on Monday night.

He said here on Thursday that the entire society should condemn such incidents that destroyed peace and communal harmony as well as development and progress. The police should not leave any stone unturned to arrest all those persons responsible for spreading communal hatred and targeting innocent people. Such incidents served only the vested interests, he said.

On Wednesday, residents and workers of various Hindutva organisations under the banner of “Belgaumche Sujan Jaagat Nagarik” (Vigilant citizens of Belagavi) demanded the arrest of those behind the violence. They alleged that it was a well-planned attack by a group of over 200 men, who took the shield of over 40 women leading them from the front. The group selectively attacked some houses and destroyed property around midnight.

The workers, among whom were BJP leader Anil Benke and Belagavi district president of Sri Ram Sene Ramakant Konduskar, said the attacks were “one-sided” but not between two religious groups, which is in sharp contrast to the version of Police Commissioner S. Ravi that the clashes were between members of two communities.
