Students of sixth semester of the Government College for Women here were shocked when they went to Net browsing centres to find out their 2012-13 examination results, as most of them were marked absent in the results list announced by Bangalore University on Tuesday.
Following this, even as the university was holding its convocation programme in Bangalore on Thursday, the students staged a protest here to highlight their grievances.
As many as 200 students of the 299, including 44 repeaters, from the science stream who appeared for the examinations, were not only surprised but also shocked by the results.

As per the results list available on the website, students from the women’s college have been marked absent in up to three papers, particularly in physics, chemistry and mathematics.
For example, Gouthami A.S. (registration number 10kfs75063) has been marked absent in physics, chemistry and mathematics (PCM) papers. The case with Malashri V.S. (10kfs75096) was no different. “They have marked us absent, though we took the examinations as is evident by our signatures on the hall tickets,” the students said.
The students thronged the college campus on Thursday and argued with the principal seeking justice.

Senior students, with support from juniors, went in a procession from the college premises to the Deputy Commissioner’s office and staged a dharna there. They shouted slogans and displayed the list containing the wrong results downloaded from the website.
This incident has caused concern among students and parents as the last date for admission to postgraduate and other courses is fast approaching.
“I wanted my daughter, Razia, to get admission to B.Ed course. But we do not know if she has cleared her B.Sc final year examination due to the wrong results announced,” Nazir Ahmad, a parent told The Hindu .
Led by Yuva Vidyarthi Hitarakshana Vedike president K. Suresh Gowda, the affected students submitted a memorandum to in-charge Deputy Commissioner V. Venkateshmurthy and district in-charge Minister U.T. Khader’s personal assistant Sufwan.
