Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Karnataka at Kalaburagi H.M. Maheshwaraiah has said that the University, which had 21 departments, plans to add more departments in the coming years and infrastructure had been created for the purpose.
He told presspersons here on Friday that the University was now offering 35 integrated and postgraduate programmes in different streams including engineering and research programmes in different subjects. It had begun the admission process for the academic year 2018-19 and would be holding Common Entrance Test (CET) at seven centres in Karnataka and 78 centres across the country on April 28 and 29. The applications were being received online and already over 26,000 applications had been received from different States.
Spread over 640 acres of land at Kadaganchi, the nine-year-old University now had all the necessary infrastructure and experienced faculty to teach various programmes. It had been converted into a digital campus with over 15,000 journals and lakhs of books made available on smart phones.

Water harvesting
Prof. Maheshwaraiah said the University had installed water harvesting system in all the buildings to harvest 40 lakh litres of water and a huge pond was being built at a cost of Rs. 2.5 crore. A Rs.450 crore project had now been sanctioned to provide drinking water to the campus. The university was now generating 340 MW of power by harnessing solar energy.
Admitting that there was not much awareness in Karnataka about the University, he said publicity programmes were being conducted and gradually the number of applicants from Karnataka was increasing.
