Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said the government will approach the Centre over its move to reduce allocation of funds to the State under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA).
Speaking to reporters at the Lalitha Mahal helipad here, Mr. Siddaramaiah feared that the funds allocated to Karnataka would be halved.
The MNREGA scheme, which promises at least 100 days of work, is the source of livelihood of a large number of people in the State, he said.

The Chief Minister charged that the Narendra Modi-led government had not fulfilled its pre-poll promises.
The Chief Minister reiterated the State government’s position on Kannada as the medium of instruction in primary schools and said the State would move the Supreme Court again with a review petition, in the light of the apex court’s order that parents had the right to choose the medium of instruction for their children.

Mr. Siddaramaiah said he would speak to eminent writer Devanuru Mahadeva, who has declined to chair the Sahitya Sammelan over the government’s stance on Kannada, to reconsider his decision.
When asked about the winter session of the State Legislature, scheduled to begin in Belagavi on December 9, he said the government was planning to pass a host of pending Bills during the session.
