MLC miffed at Mysore varsity

R. Dharmasena, MLC, on Thursday, has alleged that he was not “properly” invited to the inaugural function of the Mysore varsity’s centenary celebrations held here recently.

Mr. Dharmasena, a member of the university’s Academic Council, said he could not attend the historic function as he could not get parking near the venue as he was not given a car pass. “It’s nothing but an insult to an elected representative. I was treated shabbily despite being an elected member. I am considering moving a privilege motion against the varsity officials concerned for their alleged lapse,” he said, after the meeting. Vice-Chancellor K.S. Rangappa argued there was no lapse on the officials’ part since the invitation was sent through the registered post. “If at all there was any inconvenience, it was not intentional.”

Registrar C. Basavaraj said the university had ensured that invitations were delivered at the offices of the elected representatives, including those of the MLAs, MLCs and MPs. “Our staff was told to inform the personal assistants of the elected representatives about the invitation. We apologise in case of any inconvenience despite our best efforts,” he added.
