October 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:04 am IST - BALLARI:

Minister of State for Labour P.T. Parameshwar Naik, who is also the district in-charge Minister, has sought the suspension of V. Srinivas, Director of Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS).

Though Mr. Naik wrote to the Minister of State for Medical Education R. Sharanprakash Patil on October 3, it has come to light only now.

In the letter, Mr. Naik, terming Dr. Srinivas as an incapable administrator, said that because of his improper handling, the government dental college here was denied permission to admit students for the first year of BDS course by the Dental Council of India. As such around 50 poor and meritorious students from the State, particularly from Hyderabad Karnataka region were deprived of professional education.

Getting quotation, instead of inviting tenders, for supply of materials and ordering of works; delay in submitting a report on the collapse of the portico of a hospital building, in which one persons was killed and another injured; and complaints of maladministration were among other charges levelled against the director.

Mr. Naik, while stating that he had personally inquired into the allegations and found them to be true, urged Mr. Patil to initiate steps to place Dr. Srinivas under suspension, pending inquiry, and also to appoint a capable person to the post at the earliest.
