Minister orders suspension of Bal Mandir superintendent

Expressing displeasure over the lack of facilities provided to the residents at the Bal Mandir for girls here, Minister of State for Women and Child Development Umashree ordered for the suspension of its superintendent Manjula here on Saturday. The Minister paid a surprise visit to the mandir based on complaints that girls were not given proper facilities there.

Nutritious food

The Minister also instructed the authorities to change the cooking staff following complaints that they had failed to provide nutritious food to the residents as per government guidelines.

The Minister said that the superintendent had failed to take steps to repair the solar water heater, fans and other equipment even after repeated appeals by the residents. The food quality was also not up to the mark, she added.

The Minister asked the officers to provide a detailed medical report on the death of Padmavathi (15), a resident of the mandir, owing to health problems on April 22.

The Minister expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of facilities at the mandir, including beds, drinking water, towel, dress and food.
