Mini-trucks ply on Agumbe Ghat Road

The district administration opened Agumbe Ghat Road, part of National Highway 169(A) that connects Tirthahalli with Udupi for the movement of mini-trucks from Sunday.

It may be mentioned here that landslips were reported near the seventh curve of Agumbe Ghat on June 28 owing to heavy rain. Following this, barring buses, the movement of heavy vehicles, LCVs, mini-trucks and and trucks on Agumbe Ghat was barred. Owners of mini-trucks had recently requested the district administration to remove the restrictions.

K.A. Dayanand, Deputy Commissioner, said in wake of the request, the district administration had sought a report from Public Works Department and Regional Transport Authority (RTA) in this regard. The PWD and RTA officials had told the district administration that the repair and restoration work along the seventh curve was undertaken and a retention wall was constructed there. As the rain had also declined in Agumbe, the movement of light goods vehicles of four tonne capacity could be allowed.

Based on this, Mr. Dayanand passed an order to allow the movement of mini-trucks along Agumbe Ghat Road from 6 a.m. of November 18.
