Raichur, Ballari and Koppal Milk Producer Unions’ Federation has announced an increase of Re. 1 per litre in the procurement price for milk containing higher fat and solid non fat on January 16.
“A decision to this effect was taken at the board meeting to fix a scientific price to ensure the quality of milk being procured as per the directions of the State government,” N. Satyanarayan, president of the federation, told presspersons here on Thursday.
Mr. Satyanarayan said that currently for milk with 3.5 fat and 8.5 solid non fat Rs. 23.75 per litre was paid and for milk with 4.1 fat and 8.5 solid non fat the price was Rs. 24.01 and for milk with 4.5 fat and 8.5 solid non fat it was Rs. 24.75.

“Now the price of milk containing 4.1 fat and 8.5 solid non fat will be Rs. 24.94 and for milk with 4.5 fat and 8.5 solid non fat will be Rs. 25.73 per litre respectively,” he said.
The increase in the price will motivate farmers to improve its quality by adopting ration balancing, proper cattle maintenance and the like, he added.
There are 590 unions that are spread over the three districts of Ballari, Raichur and Koppal and on an average around 1.70 lakh litres of milk that are procured everyday.

The federation will incur an additional expenditure of Rs. 1.48 lakh every day.
In addition, the federation has also decided to give the Sankranti incentive of Re. 1 per litre for a limited period from January 16 to March 31, 2015.
