President of the Shivamogga Zilla Panchayat Kalagodu Rathnakar has directed the officials of the Department of Rural Drinking Water Supply to prepare a list of villages that will face drinking water crisis in summer in a week. The possibility of drawing drinking water to such villages from the nearest surface water sources will be explored. The zilla panchayat will also allocate ample funds to dig borewells in such places, he said at the general body meeting of the zilla panchayat here on Wednesday.

Member Bangari Naik expressed displeasure that, many government schools and anganwadi centres in Shikaripur taluk were facing drinking water problem.

Members Shubha Krishnamurthy and Geetha Mallikarjuna said that there was inordinate delay on part of the Mangalore Electricity Supply Company in providing power connection for the borewells dug by the zilla panchayats in the villages that were gripped by drinking water problem.
