Patil Puttappa, veteran journalist and president of the Karnatak Vidyavardhak Sangha, has appealed to the State government to reconstitute the Karnataka Maharashtra Border Dispute Special Legal Advisory Committee at the earliest under a legal expert to defend Karnataka’s case in the boundary dispute pursued by Maharashtra in the Supreme Court.
Concerns of the people
At a press conference here on Monday, he said the committee, now headed by the former judge M. Ramkrishna had failed to espouse the concerns of the people in the event of an adverse verdict.

The government could find some other suitable office for Mr. Ramkrishna and reconstitute the committee.
Reiterating that Maharashtra’s suit on the dispute was not maintainable in a court of law but could be resolved only by Parliament as per Article 3 of the Indian Constitution, he said the apex court admitted the suit due to the weak defence of Karnataka in the initial stage.

He promised Kannada organisations that he would try his best to get an appointment with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to present their views afresh, even as the Kannada organisations have set a June 15 deadline for the government to reconstitute the committee.
Veteran Kannada leader Siddangouda Patil, senior activist and journalist Raghavendra Joshi and Belagavi District Kannada Organisations Action Committee president Ashok Chandardi were present.
