‘Translation is a creative process'

Chairman of the Kuvempu Bhasha Bharti Samsthe Gurudutt said here on Saturday that the samsthe was working on a book synonyms and antonyms for the benefit of translators.

D.N.Srinath who received the Central Sahitya Academy Award for translation is being felicitated by the members of the National Education Society in Shimoga on Saturday.

He was speaking at a function organised to felicitate D.N. Srinath, who is the recipient of the Translation Award of the Central Sahitya Akademi, of Kasturba Girls' Pre-University College.

Mr. Gurudutt said translation of literary work from one Indian language to another was not an easy task. People who lacked proficiency in languages concerned were committing several mistakes while translating literary works. He lauded Mr. Srinath for his translations, which he described as flawless. Speaking on the occasion, president of the Kantavara Kannada Sangh Na. Mogasale regretted that the awards were losing their importance in view of the lobbying and pressure tactics being adopted to get them.

Complimenting Mr. Srinath for his unique achievement in the field of translation, Mr. Mogasale said that translation is also a creative process.

Secretary of the National Education Society S.V. Thimmaiah and president of the National Education Society D.R. Rathnakar spoke.
