‘Ban Bajrang Dal, VHP’

February 06, 2010 04:22 pm | Updated 04:22 pm IST - DAVANGERE

In the wake of the interim report by the Justice Somashekara Commission, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded that the Government ban the Bajrang Dal, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Sri Rama Sene. It has also sought action against those attacking minority institutions.

Speaking to presspersons here on Friday, Maruti Manpade, member of the State committee of the CPI(M), said the Commission had, in the report, stated that the three organisations were involved in church attacks. Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Home Minister V.S. Acharya, instead of honouring the report and initiating action against those responsible, were speaking against the Commission. The president of the State BJP, K.S. Eshwarappa, had gone to the extent of questioning the proofs the Commission had obtained, he said and added that that the former Minister had become too arrogant. He wondered what was wrong with the press being given a copy of the report, and added that the BJP leaders’ criticism of the Commission was not based on reason.

Attacks on churches in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Bangalore, Mysore, Davangere and Uttara Kannada districts were planned, he said and alleged that they were carried out with the connivance of the Police.
