B.S. Yeddyurappa, State president, BJP, has alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recommended to the Centre the separate religion status for Lingayat only to divide people. He wanted benefit in the election by dividing the Lingayats and Veerashaivas, he said addressing a party rally at Salagame village near here on Friday.
Mr. Yeddyurappa held that the CM took up this issue as he was sure that the former would become Chief Minister after the elections. “As an attempt to stop me from becoming Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah took up the issue of separate religion. However, people of the State are intelligent enough to understand Siddaramaiah’s conspiracy. Now Siddaramaiah has stopped speaking about the issue as he learnt that it would boomerang,” he said.
Further, he alleged the State government had ignored the plight of farmers. More than 3,500 farmers committed suicide during the Congress rule. Similarly, law and order collapsed in the State and the murder of 24 Hindu activists was an example of this. “People should teach the Congress government a lesson in the election,” he said.

He said he was confident that the BJP would win at least four seats in Hassan district. He appealed to the public to support BJP candidate Preetham Gowda in Hassan.
