Defective website

Sir, — The website designed by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for payment of taxes is not at all user-friendly. The site frequently gets timed out and one has to start the process all over again. Senior citizens get frustrated as sometimes, after all the data in the form is filled the site does not accept payment as it times out before the OTP is received. The repay option does not open for effecting payment after the transaction ID is received. BBMP rarely responds to emails on this matter. The civic authority should make the system more taxpayer friendly and ensure that queries are answered.

Cause for concern

Sir, — It is unfortunate that the second PU evaluation has run into rough weather, with lecturers keeping away from evaluation work across the State. This is not the first time that lecturers are holding the Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) and students to ransom. The timing of the strike is also inappropriate as the second PU results could have a big bearing on the students’ future. Though DPUE has some alternative plans, any wrong move at this hour can affect the careers of thousands of students.

Share autos

Sir, — The Regional Transport Office in Bengaluru should give permit to share autos and taxis, which will a long way in reducing congestion in the city . In cities such as Chennai, Delhi and Kolkata, share autos have been available for many years. If this facility is available, people who want to travel short distances can avoid using their own vehicles.

To segregate or not

Sir, — On Saturday, at about 10.30 a.m., we were proceeding towards Wilson Garden from BW Lion’s Hospital Road. Near Kolada Mutt of Sri Shantaveera Swami, I observed a pourakarmika emptying the contents of garbage bags — all segregated at source — onto a mound of trash. If this is the value attached to the efforts of individual householders in segregating the waste at source, how can we ever expect the project to be successful?
