Legal tangle continues

It appears that there is no respite from legal tangles for actor Vishnuvardhan’s memorial.

Since day one, legal hassles have haunted the project, planned by the government for the thespian, who had carved a niche for himself by acting in over 200 films.

Incidentally, on Tuesday, the High Court of Karnataka stayed the government notification on allotting 2 acres of land at Mylasandra village for the memorial.

In 2010, land was allotted for the memorial on Abhiman Studio premises.

Frustrated by the delay in getting legal clearance, the actor’s wife, Bharathi Vishnuvardhan, had, at one point of time, resolved to shift the memorial to Mysuru, Vishnuvardhan’s home town. She, however, changed her mind after being persuaded by the actor’s fans.

Earlier this year, following the intervention of actor and Minister M.H. Ambareesh, the government allotted 2 acres of land, abutting the studio premises, at Mylasandra village for the memorial at a cost of Rs. 11 lakh.

Environmentalists have now taken a legal recourse alleging that the memorial was coming up within the buffer zone of Turahalli forest.
