A day ahead of U.S. President Barack Obama’s visit to New Delhi, the Left parties staged demonstrations across the north Karnataka region on Saturday.
Activists of the Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) and the Socialist Unity Centre of India- Communist (SUCI-C) gathered at the Swami Vivekananda Circle in Dharwad and burnt an effigy in protest against U.S. imperialism.
“The imperial policies of the U.S. are disturbing world peace. That country had been attacking third world countries to safeguard its market interests. It is a pity that the Union government has invited Mr. Obama as the chief guest at the Republic Day functions with scant regard to all these issues,” they said.

CPM district secretary B.S. Soppin, CPI leader G.H. Kariyannavar, and SUCI-C leader Ramanjanappa Aldalli led the protest.
Human chain
In Raichur, a demonstration was organised at Ambedkar Circle and a human chain formed around it.

In Sindhanur, Anti-Imperialist Forum, a conglomeration of various organisations and individuals took out a protest march.
Aggression
Maula Mulla of the CPI, Sharanabasappa Mamshetty of the CPI (M) and H.V.Diwakar of the SUCI burnt an effigy of Mr. Obama at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Chowk in Kalaburagi. Mr. Diwakar alleged that the U.S. was responsible for aggression in many countries and inviting Mr. Obama would be a threat to India’s sovereignty.
Security agreement
Activists of the CPI and the Al-India Tanzeem-e-Insaf district committee took out a protest in Bidar.
They urged the Union government not to enter into any trade or security agreements with the U.S., nor “accept that country’s generalisations of Muslims as terrorists” and racial profiling measures against members of some religious groups.
