Kolar District Congress Committee president M.L. Anil Kumar has said that the former Minister S.N. Krishnaiah Setty has not been admitted to the Congress.

However, the party district unit has requested the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee to consider the issue of admitting Mr. Setty in view of strengthening the party in Malur, Mr. Anil Kumar added. On the issue of show-cause notice issued by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary as reported in some sections of the media, Mr. Anil Kumar told The Hindu on Thursday that he had not received any such notice or letter.

On the controversy surrounding the admission of Mr. Setty to the Congress, Mr. Anil Kumar said that a number of supporters of Mr. Setty, including members of the local bodies, were admitted to the party in May 2013 following a request by them.

Mr. Setty, a former MLA from Malur, was also present at the function.

But he was not admitted to the party and it was conveyed to him (Mr. Setty) that the decision to induct any former MLA or MP rests with the KPCC.
