Kolar’s Chethana bags fourth place in science stream

M.S. Chethana of Sahyadri Pre-University College, Kolar, has stood fourth in state in the science stream by scoring 593 out of 600 marks in second PUC examinations.

M.S. Chethana of Sahyadri Pre-University College here has stood first in the district and has bagged the fourth place in the state for the science stream by scoring 593 out of 600 marks in the second Pre-University Course examinations. The PUC results were announced on Wednesday.

Hailing from the Dalit community, Chethana has scored centum in physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology. The daughter of M. Shankarappa and Bharati, both Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation employees, she hopes to become a doctor.

Chethana is expecting a good ranking in the Common Entrance Test (CET) and is presently attending coaching classes in Bengaluru to prepare for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test.

College president M. Udaykumar told The Hindu on Thursday that Chethana will get Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Award and Rs. 60,000 cash instituted by the Union Human Resources Development, which is given to Dalit students scoring high marks in second PUC. “Students from our college have been getting the award for the past four years,” he added.
