Even as Kalaburagi district received widespread rainfall in the last one month, farmers have completed sowing on 2,01,103 hectares of land, recording 36 % achievement for the targeted 5,59,785 hectares during the kharif season, till July 1.
According to the Department of Agriculture, sowing has been completed on 35,371 hectares in Afzalpur taluk against the targeted 75,215 hectares.
In Aland taluk, sowing has been taken up on 38,451 hectares (89,831 hectares target) and in Chincholi taluk, it is 31,000 hectares against a target of 67,487 hectares.

In Chitapur taluk, sowing has been completed on 30,272 hectares (77,825 hectares target), followed by Jewargi taluk with 28,038 hectares (1,04,451 hectares target) and Sedam taluk with 26,989 hectares against the targeted area of 65,305 hectares.
Farmers have taken up black gram on 19,700 hectares, achieving 80 % for a target of 25,000 hectares.
Green gram covers 29,000 hectares (85 %) against a target of 35,100 hectares in the district. Farmers have cultivated soya bean on 9,000 hectares of land (60 %) against a target of 15,000 hectares in the district.

Of the target of 5.59 hectares, the department has fixed 23,285 hectares of land for cultivating cereals and millets. Pulses will be taken up on 4,23,450 hectares and oil seeds on 38,000 hectares.
Though the target remains similar to last year’s 5,59,785 hectares, production target set for this year has recorded an impressive increase with 32,50,480 tonnes against last year’s 26,96,500 hectares.
The district received 213.1 mm rainfall from June 1 to June 30. Aland taluk received the highest of 294.5 mm, followed by Afzalpur taluk with 223.2 mm rainfall. Rainfall recorded in Sedam was 210.3 mm, while Chincholi and Chitapur taluks recorded 193 mm and 192 mm rainfall. respectively. Jewargi received 174 mm rainfall.
